Summer's here & the entertainment is hot, hot, hot

SANDPOINT — OK, kids — it is officially official. Summer has arrived! Get out and enjoy this weekend with live music at the Sandpoint Farmers Market and be sure to make your way up to Schweitzer this Sunday for free chairlift rides, live music and lots more as the mountain celebrates the season on 7B Sunday.

DiLuna’s Café has back-to-back shows this weekend, with live blues Friday night and the Storytelling Company performance on Saturday. Also this weekend, the Panida screen the award-winning charmer of a film, ‘I, Daniel Blake’ and local live music venues are chock-full of activity for your listening pleasure.

Thursday, June 22

Kevin Dorin

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6 p.m.

One of the most original voices you may ever hear, Kevin Dorin sounds like no one but Kevin Dorin. Check out the Thursday Night Singer-Songwriter Solo Series. Admission: Free for those 21 and over.

Paula Poundstone Comedy Show

Heralded as one of our country’s foremost comics, Paula Poundstone’s quick-thinking, unscripted approach to comedy makes for a great night out. She’s a regular panelist on NPR’s #1 show, the screwball weekly news quiz show, ‘Wait Wait … Don’t Tell Me!’

‘I, Daniel Blake’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 5:30 p.m.

Winner of the Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the latest from legendary director Ken Loach is a gripping, human tale about the impact one man can make. Gruff but goodhearted, Daniel Blake (Dave Johns) is a 59-year-old carpenter recovering from a heart attack who befriends a single mother and her two kids as they navigate their way through the impersonal, Kafkaesque benefits system.

Polly O’Keary & The Rhythm Method

Venue: DiLuna’s Cafe, 207 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for dinner and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Award-winning blues vocalist and bassist with a red-hot band in tow — don’t miss this evening if you love great food and killer blues!

BareGrass

Venue: Pend d’Oreille Winery, 301 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

The Beat Diggers

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Made up of all locals, The Beat Diggers share cool tunes, ear candy harmonies, and epic rock and roll. This band of innovators includes lead guitarist and vocalist Benny Baker, drummer Ali Maverick Thomas, Christine Kester, Mike (Big Dog) Poulin, Rob Smith, and whoever may stoke the stage to instigate true musical treats.

‘Legally Blonde’

Venue: Pend Oreille Playhouse, 236 S. Union St., in Newport.

Time: 7 p.m.

Directed by Charlie Monte with music directed by Millie Brumbaugh and choreography by Isabelle White, ‘Legally Blonde, The Musical’ is written by Heather Hach and based on the blockbuster 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon. It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner, after he dumps her for not being ‘serious enough.’

‘June Bug Ball’ Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Come celebrate the fun tradition of social dancing in Sandpoint. This dance starts with a hustle lesson will be taught by a local professional instructor from 7-8 p.m., followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers and more. Singles and couples are welcome.

This is the Grand Opening weekend for Schweitzer Mountain Resort and the unofficial kickoff to summer for Sandpoint and Bonner County! To celebrate, local restaurants, retail stores, beer and wine producers, artists and musicians are all up at Schweitzer for the day. In addition, unlimited rides on the Great Escape Quad will be free all day.
