According to the June 16, 2017, Bonner County Daily Bee, the Lions Club denied Sandpoint Indivisible’s application to participate in this year’s Fourth of July Parade. The stated reasons are that the group is a political protest group and the group endeavors to push back against President Donald Trump’s agenda.
Is this consistent with the Lions Club’s previous decisions regarding which groups can participate in the Fourth of July parade?
For example, in December 2010, Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell stated “Our top political priority over the next two years should be to deny President Obama a second term.” That sounds to me like a pushback on the president and his agenda. That does not sound like “everyone body pulling and working together.” And yet the Republican Party participates in the parade. (The Democrats participate also).
It appears that Sandpoint Indivisible is being held to a different standard.
