Schools are, in part, funded by people who have no children and those people see schools as an investment in the future. If the product the schools turn out cannot repay the investment then we, as a society, are supporting a failing business.

Most motorcycle repair businesses fail because the owner treated it as a hobby shop. When we treat our schools as an “enrichment center for our children,” we have failed to support the purpose of public education. Public schools are funded by the public to produce employable individuals and when funding is tight, “employable” should be the main focus. The school superintendent should be visiting our business community and ascertaining what their needs are. I have talked to several businesses and found out that job applicants can’t read a ruler or make change for a dollar.

Ask for funding based on what our community’s return on our investment will be, not how many internet connections you would like in the school. Remember, what is best for the children is employment.
