I’ve been around the world, and back again. I’ve taught in the Talas mountains of the Kyrgyz Republic, and I’ve taught on the poverty stricken reservation in Browning, Mont. I’ve had opportunities to travel the world, to advance my education, and to move to a higher paying state. But the best decision I’ve ever made? Accepting a teaching position within the Lake Pend Oreille School District — coming home.
Home to a community that stands behind its kids. A community that believes in loyalty and is rooted in school pride and achievement. A community that would give every last dollar to see its kids succeed and thrive in the world. A community that recognizes innovation and opportunity, and what it takes to provide these experiences for our youth.
This levy allows our children to find what they are good at. It provides an outlet for some — through a sport, a club, or an activity. It creates a future for others — scholarship opportunities, a career path, or both, like it did for me.
I vote yes for the 3,700 students in the Lake Pend Oreille School District. I believe in you. I believe in your future and I want to see you succeed. I want you to have the best and most progressive education possible. I believe the true members of our community do, too.
