Jeffres, Banks earn North Star League honors

| March 4, 2017 12:00 AM

CLARK FORK — One was a massive senior dominating down low, the other a skinny freshman doing damage from long range, and the inside-out, one-two punch of Clark Fork’s Spencer Jeffres and Kobe Banks was recognized with selection on the All-North Star League Boys Basketball Team, as voted on recently by the league’s coaches.

Jeffres used his 6-4, 250 pound frame to do yeoman work on the blocks, averaging 16 points per game by mixing a strong mid-range game with some polished low post moves. He also led the team in rebounding, registering a whopping nine double-doubles on the season.

When teams collapsed or doubled on Jeffres, he was a strong enough passer to make them pay, opening up the perimeter for teammates, namely Banks.

The freshman played nothing like one this season, averaging 16 points per game while carrying the scoring load for stretches. Banks did a lot of his damage from beyond the arc, including seven long range bombs in a 26 point outburst against Lakeside, one of five 20-plus nights on the season for the streak-shooting frosh.

When the pair of Cats were executing correctly, they were nearly impossible to stop at times in what was a very strong year for the North Star League.
