March 5, 1967 — BLAZE OUT QUICKLY

CONFERENCE CALL WITH LEGISLATORS

Particular subjects of legislation were covered Feb. 22, in the telephone conference between Bonner County people and First District legislators in Boise.

The conference was technically plagued with feedback between two of the special telephones which faced each other across the width of the Sandpoint Senior High band room. Quality of voice transmission did not improve until the speaker units were aimed in other directions. The conference lasted about 90 minutes.

March 5, 1917 — WEATHER REPORT

F.H. LaFrenz, of the government weather registering station, reports the following for February: Highest temperature, on the 4th and 5th, 44 above; lowest temperature, on the 24th, 9 degrees below zero; snowfall for the month, 28 inches. Snowfall to date this year, 92½ inches.

HERE AND AROUND ABOUT

Mrs. V. Godfrey claims she has ten hens which qualify to enter with any of the much advertised fowls in Spokane in an egg laying contest. During February these hens laid 156 eggs. Of these ten industrious fowls, two are White Orpingtons, three Plymouth Rocks, three Black Minorcas and two Rhode Island Reds.

W.S. Finney, just returned from a business trip through Shoshone county, says those who think the snowfall heavy here should have seen the drifts around the Milwaukee tunnel at East Portal, where 272 inches of snow has fallen this winter.

BLACKSMITHS TO RAISE PRICES

Wm. Ellison, of Ellison & Eitelbuss, has stated that the city’s blacksmiths will probably raise their prices soon. “We had to pay $30 per ton for the last order of coal,” said Mr. Ellison, “horseshoes are $8 a keg and bar iron has doubled in price. Nearly everything we use in the shop has advanced at the same rate. Everybody but the blacksmith boosted prices long ago. If we are to stay in business we have to do the same.”
