I strongly support the upcoming school levy because I believe it’s necessary in order to continue to provide quality education in Bonner County. The benefits of providing such educational opportunities are too numerous to list here.

The main opposition I have heard to the current levy proposal is: (1) it’s a tax increase and will hurt many of our residents on a fixed income, and (2) some levy items are too expensive or not needed. Having put together the county budget for the last four years which determines the levy on property tax, I am very sensitive to the accountability to the public for expenditure of their money. in this case, i think the school board, the superintendent, and the administrative staff have made every effort to provide information to the public to inform and justify the requested levy. In addition, the process for putting the levy request together was open to the public for input before being approved by the board. While one might argue about a specific item in the levy, I think taken as a whole it’s passage is essential to maintain and improve the outstanding school district we enjoy. It benefits all us. Vote “in favor of” on March 14.
