Mar. 7, 1967 — ELLIOT INURED AT GAME

The Washington State Frosh basketball team — now unbeaten through 18 games of the 1967 season — will never forget No. 18.

Playing against the North Idaho Junior College Cardinals last week in Coeur d’Alene, the Frosh saw Sandpoint forward Gary Elliot, their leading scorer and rebounder, carried off to the hospital after the first minute of play to have four stitches taken for a cut on the head. The game stopped twice more in the early going to repair bloodied noses suffered by two other WSU players.

All three returned to action, however, and among them provided 46 points as the Coubabes downed North Idaho 75-68. The win made it 22 victories in a row for the WSU Frosh since they were beaten near the end of the 1966 season at Coeur d’Alene by these same Cardinals.

KERR & NEAD BUYS MERCANTILE STOCK

One of the largest transactions for several years in local mercantile circles was the purchase of the Sandpoint Mercantile stock by Kerr & Nead last week for a $45,000 consideration. The Sandpoint Mercantile was once a part of the Northern Mercantile co. and was organized in 1910 with H.E. Brown as president and manager for the mercantile interests, the Northern Mercantile retaining control of the cedar and timber interests.

KEYSTONE MINE SOLD FOR $250,000

A deed was filed Friday in the county recorder’s office from the Keystone Mines Corp., transferring to Henry Armfield of New York 11 patented and 27 unpatented claims in the Blacktail mining district. It is said that the price paid was $250,000. Sale of this property at a time when other properties around the lake are being overlooked by experienced mining men would indicate there is something under the surface more than is known.
