Math Counts winners named

A Sandpoint Middle School student claimed fourth-place at the recent North Idaho Chapter of Math Counts competition. The annual event was hosted by Idaho Society of Professional Engineers and North Idaho College on Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Out of the competition, the top two schools and top seven individuals will move on to the state competition being held in Boise on March 11.

Finishing first was Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy (Maria Aguiar, Matthew Barrett, George Pierowski, and Lilian Smith, coach: Virginia Hammond). Claiming second was River City Middle School (Jacob Ditto, Charlie Nowlan, Samantha Snow, Kanyon Zirker, coach: Ann Cunningham).

The top 10 individuals finishers were: Maria Aguiar, first, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; Srikar Surapaneni, second, North Idaho STEM Charter School; Lilian Smith, third, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy;

Camille Neuder, fourth, Sandpoint Middle School; Matthew Barrett, fifth, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; Kanyon Zirker, sixth, River City Middle School;

George Pierowski, seventh, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; Eleri Dobbins, eighth, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; Rebekah Hines, ninth, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy; and Colby Bernhart, tenth, Post Falls Middle School.
