LPOSD’s supplemental levy request is being painted as a remedy for the lack of funding from the state of Idaho.

A supplemental levy would not be necessary if LPOSD was managed with a proper degree of fiscal restraint and cost sharing of parents for extracurricular activities. Multi-year bonuses for administrators who already are paid more than three times the average income of Bonner County, lack of any real transparency in the districts finances (forensic audit), the lack of any unrestrained public presentations on the levy (invite only and reservations), coaching longevity pay raises, no sincere negotiations with teachers’ unions whose members are already on a state career ladder increasing their pay, all these are symptomatic of an organization that is out of control and lacking of any thought for the taxpayers who have to finance these fiascos.

The supplemental levy has more than doubled over the last 10 years and at the rate of unceasing increase will double again in 10 short years or less. And let us not forget, LPOSD still will come back with another facilities levy. At what point will the taxpayers say enough? As stated by management, funding will never match our need. We all have to live within our means, why do public agencies refuse to do the same.

We are not serfs but the owners of these public agencies. Let us act like owners and stop the madness … vote no on the levy.
