We have family members that teach in LPOSD. They love living and teaching here. Like the vast majority of teachers and staff, they want to contribute to making our children ready for productive lives when they graduate and begin lives on their own. They also do their best to make the experience fun and rewarding for the kids.

The cloud on the horizon for them has been the cuts to programs and personnel that they feel are of great benefit for students’ overall education and learning experience. What will be cut next, music, sports school maintenance, or even basic education tools? They, and we as volunteers in the classroom, have seen the teachers and administration try their best to make wise use of the available resources.

Consider this as you prepare to vote. It costs all of us an increasing amount of money to buy food, clothes, maintain our homes, and have a little left to eat out and go to a movie, etc. Wouldn’t the same increase in expenses apply to running a school district?

By the way, if you volunteer in the classroom now and then, attend school board meetings and talk to teachers and administrators, you would gain a better understanding of the good things being accomplished along with the problems they face in LPOSD. You might even enjoy helping them find solutions.

Please support our schools on March 14.
