I am a mother of a recent Sandpoint High School graduate. My husband and I are grateful to the many amazing teachers in the school district who genuinely cared for and helped shape the path of our son’s future.

There are many passionate debates for both sides of this levy, some with misinformation and others with facts behind them. One hot topic is homeschooling. This is a good option for those it fits, however, most of the kids in our school district don’t have that option primarily because their parents work full time. Don’t all kids have a right to a good education?

Another topic of dispute is “overspending.” Well, I am aware of one necessary increase in spending — more counseling staff. I know we would all agree that our children have been through a significant amount of traumatic losses in the past couple of years and I applaud the school district for their caring response. The schools have invested much time, energy and money into developing programs for our kids that will help them choose healthy activities and make healthy choices. I have seen first-hand what these giving individuals have sacrificed for our kids and I am humbled by it.

Finally, the monthly outlay is less than what many of us spend on coffee or wine. Don’t our kids deserve our invest more than our leisure activities? What is your kid worth? What would you spend to help ensure a better future for your child or grandchild? Our kids deserve a “yes.”
