I am writing this letter to encourage you to vote yes on the upcoming levy for the Lake Pend Oreille School District.

Just this week, I volunteered at Hope Elementary’s Dr. Seuss Night for a few evening hours. My responsibilities involved monitoring six iPads as each student who came to my table worked for five minutes with one. It was heartwarming to observe the young people as they so skillfully worked with the tablets. We need to realize that public schools level the “playing field” by providing an equal education for all students.

Our dedicated educators, whose jobs involve much more work than meets the eye, need to have our support. One way to say “thank you” is to vote yes on this levy, and at the same time show our support for our young people. Lake Pend Oreille School District employees deserve your vote of confidence for all they do. I urge you to vote “yes” on March 14.

The passage of this levy would also have a stabilizing effect on all our communities; as without the passage, the district will ultimately have to make drastic changes. I don’t think any of us would want to see that happen.

We owe it to future generations to properly fund our public schools. I encourage you to vote yes for the upcoming levy.
