I have to ask, what kind of country do you want to live in? Do you choose freedom of speech or censorship?
On the Friday noon Face-to-Face radio show, one host stated on air they would not be talking about the levy and then hosted a full hour with the superintendent two weeks later. Another host announced to callers that the station will not allow anyone to speak negatively on the subject. After several calls, the phone lines were shut down for the last 20 minutes of the show.
The Bee and KRFY each showcased both sides of the plant facilities levy in August 2015 with live interviews. For this levy — they both declined to provide that platform.
Ironically, they choose to keep voters uneducated and they prefer that voters don’t even know this election is coming up so the turnout is in their favor.
Just like what we are seeing on the national level, local media chooses to promote the emotionally charged message of fear to influence voters. There is no reason to be threatening to close schools. The current levy is effective until June 30 and LPOSD can put on a more responsible levy question on the May ballot.
Look for a barrage of pro-levy radio ads and newspaper articles in the next few days.
The voters of Bonner County are smarter than this. If you want to hear more than the controlled LPOSD message you can go to lposdlevy.com.
