The Inside Edge - SARS hosts YSL speed event

n World Cup — Lindsey Vonn is happy. After a week which yielded two Silver medals in Super G and Downhill, she’s feeling good about next year’s Olympics in South Korea. Laurenne Ross likewise had a big week with 6th in Super G and 4th in downhill. Stacey Cook finished 6th and Jacqui Wiles 11th in downhill, showing the depth in the US squad.

n Selected — Morgan Wohlaib and Addison McNamara were selected to the Pacific Northwest team competing in the U16 Championships this month. They’ll head to Big Sky, Montana next week for Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom competition. Their selection was based upon performance at eight qualifying races this season.

n Youth Ski League Speed — The Schweitzer Alpine Racing team hosted the sole speed event for the younger set last weekend. More than 150 regional athletes competed in two Super Gs and one Giant Slalom. Local Athletes (top 10 per age group only) were: Graycn House continues to impress, finishing 2nd and 1st in the two Super G’s; Quincy Evans also skied well, finishing 4th overall in both Super Gs; Avery Edmundson was 5th and 3rd in the Super Gs and 3rd in Giant Slalom for U12 Girls; Erika Edmundson was 4th in both Super Gs and 5th in Giant Slalom for U12 Girls.

On the boys’ side, U14 Slate Fragoso finished 7th and 5th in the Super Gs while teammate Wesley Simko placed 6th and 7th in the same age group. Klein Fragoso finished 3rd and 7th for U12s. Also competing were Laura Boge, Berkeley Cox, Kjetil Lund and Crosby Schmidt.

The next event for the youth racers will be EEYSL finals at Lookout Pass in two weeks.

n Western Region U19-U21 Championships — SARS will host this major event beginning today and lasting into next week. Top athletes from West of the Rockies will converge for Super G, Giant Slalom and Slalom competition. Hosting an event such as this is prestigious, but requires significant staffing. SARS welcomes anyone interested in volunteering and getting one of the best seats in the house.

n Vertical Express for MS — Schweitzer hosts this event every year. Come join in races and fun games for charity. Check with the Activities Center for details.
