I moved to Sandpoint in 1982, and felt blessed to teach in a small, tightly knit, rural community with goals to make the schools the very best in the state, while still preserving the character and flavor of what made the community unique. The schools and activities were the absolute hub of this little town. Our rural schools provided an important connection and social gathering place to the stakeholders, like extended family. Since my first years here, I consistently have seen the district take solid steps forward to provide quality education and opportunity to students while retaining that unmistakable 7B pride and identity.
Yes, we have grown, but one aspect that seals the deal for newcomers has not changed is: dedication to education. The integrity of our schools makes us a star on the Idaho map, as we continue to increase our success in every aspect of quality education.
One area where we excel is our commitment to the arts. Our programs are whole-heartedly supported by our community. A curriculum rich in the arts develops the whole student with creative vision to match intellectual capacity. The critical balance between artistic and intellectual development is deeply valued in most post-secondary settings. Artists are innovators which is essential to the diverse directions industry will grow.
I urge you to vote yes to preserve the outstanding arts programs we have our and to preserve the commitment we’ve always had: to continued progress and excellence in all areas.
