There I was, a 20-something voting yes for school levies. What was I thinking? Let me tell you what I was thinking: schools, children, futures. Heck yeah, I am providing my support. I had hopes to be a parent one day with children attending school in this district (I had no plans to move from the area.)
And yes, I am a parent with a student currently attending Sandpoint High school. As we have progressed from kindergarten through the high school years, our experiences have been the most positive. We have benefited from advanced classes preparing for the future, extracurricular activities such as elementary school band, sporting activities and various clubs. At the very least (and oh so important) we have had the benefit of average classroom sizes. Without the support and passing of the supplemental levy, none of this will continue for our children (mine, yours, the community’s.) This is our future.
Let me ask. How many moved here because we have a superb school district? How many will end up moving elsewhere to provide a better-than-adequate education for your children? What will happen to this community when our skilled, contributing families start moving away? Who will support the many non-school related benefits/fundraisers when this community is left with only seasonal people? Let’s make a point, save this community from withering. Keep families here. Support our children. Vote yes.
