In the three weeks before the LPOSD levy vote, Blue Sky Radio, our main Sandpoint radio station, changed its policy and decided not to allow levy discussions by talk show hosts or anyone calling in. On the Feb. 10 noon-hour talk show, three callers wanted to discuss the levy but were told on air that the station management does not allow it and does not want negative opinions to be expressed about the levy, and the call was ended. After the third call, the phone lines were shut down.

During those same three weeks, Blue Sky did provide a full hour to LPOSD Superintendent Shawn Woodward for a levy presentation by a supportive talk show host. No callers were allowed during that show either.

No matter how you feel about the levy, this should concern everyone. Free speech is being curtailed by the media, on an FCC-licensed radio station, in order to allow only one side of the story to be heard.

This more resembles life in Russia than in the United States.
