Coon named chamber's top volunteer
At the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce, volunteers are essential to the success of the organization.
Without the hard work and dedication of everyone, the chamber could not accomplish all that the organization is able to get done. With that in mind, chamber officials said they want to make sure to thank those willing to go above and beyond to help its programs and events be successful.
The chamber’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon as the organization’s Volunteer of the Month for his leadership and commitment to the chamber and the community.
“Chief Coon and his team are always there to lend a hand when needed,” said Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce President Kate McAlister. “Here at the chamber they have helped us hang flower baskets, clean streets and help with our many events we host.
“From giving free rides home on New Year’s Eve and other holidays, to keeping us safe, Chief Corey Coon is leading the way. What a great asset to our community.”
Coon was hired with the Sandpoint Police Department in 1997 and has served as a patrol officer, k-9 handler, school recourse officers and lieutenant of investigations before he was appointed as the chief of police in 2013. Coon is an active member of our community and can often be found involved helping with many community events along with coaching a wide range of youth sports.
“I truly believe a team of people are only as good as the individual who leads them. Consequently the Sandpoint Police department is a great organization under the leadership of Chief Corey Coon,” said McAlister.
