Doc was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Kellogg, Idaho, a member of the Osburn VFW Post 1675 and a member of the Tin Can Sailors. On Oct. 20, 2013, Doc traveled on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., to see the World War II Memor-ial as well as other veteran memorial sites. He was so honored to take this trip and considered it to be the trip of a lifetime.

Doc loved and enjoyed his family especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, photography and another highlight trip he often spoke about, was a hunting trip to the Yukon with friends where they bagged a moose.
