Swim instructor training offered

SANDPOINT — A swim instructor training class, open to anyone 15 year-old and up, will be offered in Sandpoint starting on March 17.

The class will provide participants with 24 hours of training in learning to teach swim stroke mechanics, water safety skills, child development, age appropriate lesson planning and customer service skills. Swim Instructor training is for 15–18 year-olds and adults that are both strong swimmers and comfortable in deep water.

Classroom sessions are Friday, March 17, 24 and 31 from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, March 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at Sandpoint Community Hall (204 S. 1st St.).

In-Water practicums will be held on Saturdays, March 18 and April 1, from noon to 2 p.m. and four additional hours of assistant teaching in actual swim lessons at the SWAC (1905 Pine Street).

The fee is $75/person. A minimum of five students is required to run the course. The registration deadline is Wednesday, March 15, so hurry in to guarantee your spot. Parks & Rec offers partial scholarships for high school age registrants.
