n World Cup — Mikaela Shiffrin is on fire. This week she won both the Giant Slalom and Slalom events at Squaw Valley, clinching the Slalom Globe, closing to 80 points from the Giant Slalom globe, and all but cementing the Women’s overall title for the year. The “white circus” does its last show at the World Cup Finals in Aspen starting this week.

n Western Region Championships — The Schweitzer Alpine Racing team hosted a snowy and rainy championship series over the past eight days. Through creativity and hard work they were able to salvage all but two of the eight scheduled races. The only local athlete competing was Farli Boden, who had a big week. Although she essentially skied her points in Super G, she lowered her Giant Slalom points and had a significant Slalom result with a 12th place, 90 point result. She’s enjoyed a very successful first year of FIS racing.

n U.S. Telemark Championships — Farli Boden pulled double duty, skipping the remaining FIS events at home to scramble down to Grand Targhee for the telemark championships. She improved over last year, taking silver in all four events, and the overall Silver medal. An interesting demonstration of versatility and resilience for sure.

n 24 Hours for Hank — The sixth annual 24 hour long fundraiser for cystinosis research will be held at Schweitzer on Saturday, March 25. Sign-up to participate or go online and donate to this very important event. Information can be found at www.24hoursforhank.com

n Potpourri — Watch here for results from the Western Region U16 Championships, happening at Big Sky, Montana right now. Any comments, recommendations or contributions to this column may be sent to Shep Snow by email at shep@thesnowschool.com. Negative feedback should be sent to someone else.
