Five years ago we had family move to Sandpoint and during those five years we have enjoyed getting to know the community and what it has to offer on frequent visits. We love the atmosphere downtown with the different stores, art galleries, ZeroPoint, Sharon’s Hallmark Store, plus the various restaurants and breweries to enjoy a meal at. A person can spend 3-plus hours browsing, shopping and catching a meal all in a great setting … until your recent parking enforcement.

On a recent Friday, we were downtown doing what we have come to love and topped it off with lunch at MickDuff’s and when we returned to our vehicle, we were the lucky recipients of a parking ticket! What a way to spoil a day in downtown Sandpoint! I don’t know the motivations for this but it is a big disservice to the downtown merchants who have hung in there through all of the traffic changes over the past several years.

Will we spend as much time downtown again, probably not. Who does that effect? Business owners. The city of Sandpoint needs to rethink this, especially before spring when day trips to smaller communities are fun to do and creates dollars spent in the community.
