Talache Beach Road closed
SAGLE — One home was destroyed and another half-dozen homes were threatened in a landslide at Talache on Saturday.
Selkirk Fire Rescue & EMS Chief Ron Stoccking said the slide forced the closure of Talache Beach Road. The home that was destroyed was unoccupied, but another home was and had to be evacuated.
“The house was knocked of its pilings and is sitting sideways on the beach,” Stocking said of the destroyed home.
As many as six homes will have to be evacuated because of the subsidence, which stocking said was caused by soaking rains saturating the hillside.
Stocking said Talache Beach Road will be closed indefinitely because of unstable conditions.
“The road is collapsing above the houses,” Stocking said.
The National Weather Service in Spokane issued a flood warning on Saturday afternoon for the tri-county area. It remains in effect until noon today. The agency said recent rain and snow melt will result in increased runoff with areas of small stream flooding and field flooding.
“Additional mudslides or road washouts are possible as well,” NWS said in the flood warning.
Drier and cooler conditions are expected today and on Monday, but the weather service said additional systems with rain may result in elevated flood concerns through much of next week.
