I was dismayed to read in your paper that Clark Fork City Council voted against the proposal to designate Scotchman Peak a wilderness area.
A wilderness designation would ensure the protection of this remarkable treasure for future generation. I live here because of the beauty of our natural surroundings and I know others visit our area for the same reason. Our children and grandchildren would be able to enjoy the same blessings I do when I climb the peak: breathtaking scenery, a unique habitat for animals and plants, and a glimpse into the fragile alpine ecosystem which is so threatened in other areas. I urge our community to do all that it can to protect this awe-inspiring natural treasure.
