Connolly, Flint power Bulldogs past Spartans in shutout win

| March 22, 2017 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — Garrett Connolly logged another quality start, striking out six in four innings of two hit ball, and Trey Flint continues to scorch the baseball, driving in five runs on two hits to lead the Bulldogs to a 17-0 blanking of the Spartans in nonleague baseball Tuesday at Priest River.

Nick Holland drove in a pair of runs, and Thomas Riley scored four times for the Bulldogs (2-1), who hung crooked numbers in three of the first four frames to put the game away.

Bulldog head coach Chase Tigert praised the work of Connolly, a lefty who continues to put up zeroes.

“Garrett threw really well today,” said Tigert. “Good rotation with his fastball, going after hitters and attacking the zone.”

Alex Stockton came in and struck out the side to end the game, as the Spartans (0-1) managed just two hits in defeat.

Sandpoint is at Bonners Ferry on Saturday for a doubleheader.
