LEWISTON — Caroline Hawkins showed little rust in her first action of the season, firing an 89 to lead the Sandpoint girls team to a seventh place finish at the 16 team Lewiston Invitational on Monday.

Nina McDonnell shot 97, Hannah Hurst 105, Cheyenne Nicholson 124 and Morgan Hogue 129 for a team score of 415 at the Bryden Canyon Country Club, a whopping 31 stroke improvement over the team’s opener last week.

“Caroline’s first time out she played extremely well,” said Bulldogs head coach Tom Tharpe. “Better things will come from her as the season progresses.”

The boys team played at the Lewiston Country Club, but unlike the girls, had a far worse outing than in the opener, shooting 41 strokes higher for a team score of 406.

Lake Wilks led the way with a 91, followed by Nick Crowley 96, Jacob Humrich 115, Caelan Darling 117, Joel Johnson 102 and Wilson VanDenBerg a 124.

“The boys had a tough day, they’re just having trouble on the greens and with their drives,” said Tharp. “I’m sure they’ll work all that out. They’ve got some work to do.”

Sandpoint returns to competition after spring break, with the Moscow Invitational on April 12.
