Spring has sprung & entertainment is in full bloom

SANDPOINT — Spring has sprung and arts and entertainment are in full bloom! Thins start off with a bang tonight, as our own Leon Atkinson hosts another in his series of classical guitar concerts, this time featuring John Goulart. The Panida screens a preview showing of “All Nighter” on the big screen this evening and POAC presents a wonderful concert by Women of the World Friday night on the Panida stage.

On Saturday, the Marshall McLean Band rolls into the 219 Lounge for a CD release party and the monthly social dance takes place at Community Hall. As always, there’s live music all over town and a host of other events you’ll want to check out.

Thursday, March 23

‘All Nighter’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

Come see this pre-release in the New York Film Critic Series! ‘All Nighter’ is about a workaholic father (J.K. Simmons: Spiderman, The Meddler, The Accountant) who attempts to visit his daughter during a layover in L.A., only to discover that she’s disappeared. He is forced to team up with her awkward ex-boyfriend to find her over the course of one transformative night. Interviews with the stars after the movie.

Friends of the Guitar Hour present John Goulart

Venue: Jacklin Arts Center, 405 N. William St., in Post Falls.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

If you enjoy Leon Atkinson’s weekly show, The Guitar Hour, on Spokane Public Radio-KPBX-FM, you’re in for a real treat with this ongoing classical guitar concert series. John Goulart now enjoys the reputation of being one of Canada’s finest guitarists. He first came into prominence in 1992, after winning the First Prize in the inaugural Great Lakes International Guitar Competition. In that same year he was also a finalist and prize-winner in the Guitar Canada and Guitar Foundation of America Competitions. John’s other international prizes include the 38th annual Tokyo Guitar Contest and the Alirio Diaz Competition in Venezuela.

Benny Baker

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St.

Solo Singer/Songwriter night: He rocks, he rolls and we are going to get down with his bad artist self. Benny can be seen in many of you favorite bands: Miah Kohal, Beat Diggers, Other White Meat and is a true treat to take in on his own.

POAC presents ‘Women of the World’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Kids and Kabuki? This year’s third- to sixth grade show is based on a Japanese Folk Tale, written by Amy Hollon and Zac Curtis and will employ some ancient Japanese theatre magic.

‘Fly Fishing Film Festival’

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Trout Unlimited Fundraiser and Touring Fly Fishing Film Festival invite you to see amazing rivers and fishing adventures along with great raffles and giveaways.

Marshall McLean Band CD Release Party

Marshall and a stellar band celebrate the release of his sophomore album, “SODAK.’ A very special night of original tunes!

Social Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

This fun event starts with a one-hour country two-step lesson taught by a local professional instructor from 7-8 pm, followed by general dancing, refreshments, door prizes, mixers, and a drawing for one month of free dance lessons. Singles, couples and all levels of dancers are welcome.
