Sandpoint Little League offering a new and free

Challenger Division

SANDPOINT — Attention families with youth baseball or softball players: The registration deadline for the upcoming Sandpoint Little League season is on Friday, March 31, so the time is now to get signed up for a fun 2017 season.

From the T-ball level to Majors, there are baseball and softball teams forming now with a division for everyone. To register, visit www.sandpointlittleleague.com.

New this year, District 1 (North Idaho) is trying to start a Challenger Division in Little League. The Division allows boys and girls between the ages of 4-18 years-old with physical and mental challenges the opportunity to enjoy the game of baseball.

Teams are formed on ability, rather than age, with 15-20 players per team. There will be T-ball, coach-pitch, player-pitch or a combo of all three. Everyone bats, and players will have “buddies” from AAA and Majors on hand to help out when needed.

The new league has had several people offer their support to coach and make this division a reality, but the player interest so far is lacking.
