Regarding the public hearing on increasing truck weights on Idaho 2, U.S. 95 and other area roads: Residents may make comments and read more here: http://itd.idaho.gov/freight/?target=129000-lbs-route-requests.
I oppose approval of all routes proposed for vehicles of such weight.
Bonner County routes specifically are opposed. We don’t desire the increased costs and inherent danger associated with such heavily laden motor vehicles.
Trucks pulling this massive weight cannot help but slow traffic and encourage already dangerous passing maneuvers by motorists. They may even damage our roads, and generally will contribute little to our county in exchange. I normally encourage business’ competitive improvements but this one is dubious and seems to have the effect of limiting employment of “normal”-sized truck drivers. I’ve seen no proof that such vehicles will actually improve competitiveness for Idaho businesses or reduce “greenhouse” gases. I say no, do not approve the increased vehicle weights.
