Post office work may affect mail

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Post Office is getting a new floor this week and may cause some inconvenience for customers.

In an email to the Daily Bee, Postmaster Barb Puckett said the work will not impact business or residential mail delivery; however, customers who have their mail on hold due to vacation or weather-related issues may not be able to retrieve their mail if they walk in to pick it up.

The floor is being replaced a section at a time, so all casing and mail equipment is being moved to one controlled area of the facility. The facility is not large enough to accommodate all equipment to be set up so that all available cases are assessable. This could create the inability to get to some cases during business hours to retrieve customer-hold mail.

The customer and post office box lobbies will have the floor replaced as well, which will be done in two sessions. The customer lobby will be done prior to business hours and will open on time, but it may impact the ability of post office box customers to retrieve their mail early in the morning.

The second session will block the post office box lobby, but customers will be able to access the customer lobby. As a temporary courtesy during that time, customers can retrieve their mail over the counter from a clerk. To pick up their mail from the clerk, customers must provide a photo identification, which Puckett said is non-negotiable. 

The work is scheduled for completion by April 1.

"We apologize for any inconvenience and will make every reasonable effort to continue to provide excellent customer service," Puckett said.
