Sandpoint Cutthroat Lacrosse forming boys and girls teams

| March 29, 2017 1:00 AM

SANDPOINT — It’s spring and kids with sticks are popping up all over town. There’s no need to be alarmed though, these sticks are lacrosse sticks and these kids are part of one of the most dynamic and fun sports team in town — Sandpoint Cutthroat Lacrosse.

And what is lacrosse, exactly?

Lacrosse, simply put, is a stick game. The modern game has evolved from its Native American origins hundreds of years ago. Lacrosse is a very fast paced team sport that combines many of the best attributes of basketball, soccer, football, and hockey.

It is currently the fastest growing sport in the United States, and possibly the world. According to the website laxpower.com, high school men’s lacrosse has nearly doubled to 3,484 participating teams in the past 10 years.

Locally, Sandpoint Cutthroat Lacrosse started in 2005 with just a handful of curious kids and has now expanded to offer teams for both boys and girls, starting as young as third grade and continuing up through high school.

Lacrosse offers an exciting opportunity for kids to participate in a sport that focuses on team building, communication, accountability, empathy, sportsmanship, commitment and confidence. Athletes benefit from learning lacrosse fundamentals and teamwork in a dynamic environment that will continue to develop throughout the course of their participation with the club.

It’s never too early or too late to pick up the game, and that includes helping non-lacrosse playing parents love the sport too.

Registration is now open for the 3rd/4th grade team, 5th/6th grade team, 7th/8th grade team and high school boys. The club also offers a 3rd through 8th grade team for girls and, new for 2017, a high school girls’ team. Indoor practices are starting now.
