The Inside Edge - Local racers shine at YSL Finals
(Photo by SSRA Photos) Local skier Wesley Simko raced to U14 Silver this weekend at the EEYSL Finals, hosted by Lookout Pass Ski Area. Simko was one of a host of local racers who notched top finishes.
n Youth Ski League Finals — League racing for the Youth Ski League wrapped up with two days of competition at Lookout Pass. Saturday’s Slalom was run on soft, but very manageable snow, which yielded consistent and fair ruts. Top local performers were: U14 Boys – Wesley Simko took the Silver medal, followed closely by Slate Fragoso in third. Slate straddled and had to hike first run, but bounced back with the fastest run of the day in the afternoon; U12 Boys – Cadin Billistin finished 5th for his age group with two solid runs; U8 Boys – Dakota Landwehr finished sixth in this age group; U12 Girls – Avery Edmundson took the Gold, and Erika Edmundson finished fourth; Berkeley Cox finished 12th in this hotly contested age group.
The staff was able to salt the entire hill Saturday night, resulting in a hard surface and great course conditions. Cadin Billistin was 6th for U10 Boys. Dakota stepped it up, finishing 4th in the U8 age group. Avery and Erika Edmundson finished 9th and 10th respectively for U12 Girls.
n Buddy Werner Championships — This year’s Pacific Northwest Championships for U14s will be hosted by Mission Ridge, Wash. on Friday through Sunday. Numerous SARS and Independence athletes will be competing. Watch here for details next week.
