Lola Mae Nieman, 89

Lola Mae Nieman, 89, died in Sandpoint, Idaho, after an extended illness, on April 27, 2017.

Lola was born in Baxter, Tenn., on July 14, 1927, to James and Sarah Parazetta Nash. She grew up and attended local schools in Dover, Tenn. Lola met her husband-to-be Hudson Nieman, in Nashville, Tenn., while he was playing in a traveling dance band in a nightclub. In March 1948, she traveled to Sandpoint to marry Hud where they made their home and had two sons.

One of Lola’s great loves was traveling. She and Hud loved the excitement of visiting new places throughout the world and bringing home stories and treasures to share. She was especially fond of their travels to the South Sea Islands. Lola was an active bridge player and was a member of the local Art Hanging Committee. Lola had a passion for oriental art and architecture.

Although Lola traveled the world, her favorite place to be was at their summer home on Lake Pend Oreille. She loved admiring the lake, gardening, watching the swans return each year and most of all spending family time there.

Over the years, Lola had great pride and delight in all of her grandchildren. A highlight of her and Hud’s later years was watching granddaughter Alli play volleyball and basketball and her grandson Paul play football and basketball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson; her parents; and eight siblings. She is survived by her son, Jim and wife Wendy; granddaughter, Allison Nieman-Peed, great-grandson Hudson and great-granddaughter Brooklynn; her grandson Paul Nieman and great-grandsons Asher and Bennett; her son Robert and wife Karen, grandsons Michael Nieman and Matthew Nieman, and granddaughter Kerry Nieman. She is also survived by one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held and burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
