Flint drives in six to lead Bulldogs past Bears

| May 6, 2017 1:00 AM

MOSCOW — Moscow made the mistake of throwing strikes to Sandpoint power-hitting first baseman Trey Flint, and the junior made them pay, ripping a home run and two doubles and driving in six runs to lead the Bulldogs to a 15-6 win over Moscow and a doubleheader sweep on Thursday in 4A IEL baseball.

Nick Holland scored four runs and Billy Brackett continues to produce with two hits and three runs, as the Bulldogs (8-8, 4-4 4A IEL) broke the nightcap open by taking an 8-1 second inning lead and never looking back. Sydney Bottomley picked up the victory.

The Bulldogs had to work much harder for a 7-6 win in game one, rallying after trailing 6-4 entering the top of the seventh inning after the Bears scored four in the bottom of the sixth. Alex Stockton led the offense with two hits and three runs, while Wes Holland picked up the win in relief.

Sandpoint has played well in stretches, sweeping both of their league opponents in a doubleheader, but also struggled at times, getting swept by the same to league foes. At this point in the season, every game is a playoff game, and handling the pressure will be key.

No. 2 seed Sandpoint will host No. 3 Moscow in the loser-out game of the 4A Region 1 baseball tournament on Tuesday at Pine St. Field.
