It is time for real change in the Lake Pend Oreille School Board. The current members march in lock step to the desires of the superintendent, and fail to accept input from the community. Instead of setting policy, they simply rubber stamp the actions of administrators.

I recently attended a candidate forum where all six candidates gave presentations and answered questions. After reviewing this information, I feel the following candidates will be the most effective in bringing real change to the school board.

1. Anita Perry. Anita has an impeccable background in education and administration. She well understands the role of administrators, and the importance of setting policy for administrators to follow.

2. Victoria Zeischegg. Victoria has a great deal of experience in running businesses and community involvement. She understands the importance of seeking community input and using that information to set policy.

3. Richard Miller. Richard has owned construction-related business for over 40 years. He understands the importance of developing technical and vocational training for the 74 percent of high school students who are not college ready. He also intends to develop an email list of constituents, who he will keep informed of school board activities.

On May 16, the voters will have a unique opportunity to change the makeup of our school board The listed candidates possess the skills, experience, and desire to effect that change.
