May 11, 1967 — WILL REPAIR ROOF

Councilman Bert Lines reported that the buildings committee and roofing contractor Ken Langreder inspected the roof on the city hall (2nd and Main) and determined that another patch job would be a waste of money. The council, after careful deliberation, voted to give the contract to Langreder, who will have city workmen remove the old roofing under his direction. The old skylights, which have presented a leakage problem for many years, will be removed.

RED MEASLES IMMUNIZATION SET

The Panhandle District Health Unit announces that red measles immunizations will be offered to pre-school Bonner county children over the age of one and those in the first three grades. The immunizations will be offered free of charge on Thursday, May 18, at Bonner county schools.

DANCES SUGGESTED

Councilman Abromeit told the city council he was contacted by someone wanting to sponsor dances at the beach park during the summer. The council agreed an occasional dance would be desirable, but felt the facilities were not intended for use by private persons who would stand to profit, even though they split the proceeds with the city.

May 11, 1917 — MORE TROOPS WANTED

Idaho has been asked by the war department to furnish 1543 enlisted men for the regular army within the next 30 days. Southern Idaho counties have been apportioned the number of men they should enlist. No apportionment is made in the call to the northern counties which are embraced in the counties assigned to Spokane.

SEVENTEEN YEARS OF NIGHT SERVICE

Matt Benson, who retired from the city police force Monday, had served as night patrolman for eight years. Before going onto the city force he had been night watchman at the Humbird mill for more than eight years: making a total of over 16 years of continuous night service. Mr. Benson says he will now seek a day job.

GROUND BROKEN FOR NEW CHURCH

The old Lutheran church was razed last week and workmen are now engaged in excavating on the site (Fifth and Alder) preparatory to the erection of a larger and more beautiful structure.

GARDEN WATER RATES REDUCED

Plant a spud. Sandpoint Water co. has asked the state utilities commission to allow a reduction on summer water rates when the water is used for garden purposes. The lawn rate is $3.75 per season for a 50-foot lot. Where the water is used for garden purposes or lawn and garden combined a reduction of $1 will be made and an additional 10 per cent reduction if paid on or before June 1.
