Richard John 'Rick' Shugard, 60

Richard John “Rick” Shugard, 60, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho, on Monday, May 15, 2017.

Private family services have been held.

Rick was born on June 11, 1956, in Southgate, Calif., to George and Helen Shugard. He grew up and attended schools in San Bernardino, before enlisting in the United States Army at the age of 17. He later graduated high school in Monterey, Calif.

He worked as a mechanic for Lemans Datsun and worked construction with his father and brother in Southern Cali-fornia. Rick bought property in 1994 on the Upper Pack River, and he moved here 10 years later. In Sandpoint, he worked as a licensed general contractor including work on the old Belwood Building remodel.

Rick was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, wood working, and golfing.

He was a kind, caring and gentle man.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Kern of Sandpoint; two sons, Richard and Nicholas Shugard, both of Big Bear, Calif; three grandchildren, Abbi, Brylee, and Zeppelin; two sisters, Kim (Mike) Hendrickson of Sandpoint and Kathie Griffin of Sandpoint; and three brothers, Gregory (Theresa) Shugard of Apple Valley, Calif., Randy (Lyuba) Shugard of Crestline, Calif., and George Shugard of Phoenix, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Shugard.
