I listen to the radio, read the paper, and watch television. I realize that those are, for the most part supported by advertising. I also understand that competition among businesses selling similar items is very tough and so called sales are needed to get customers in the door. Letting the customers know in turn requires advertising.

That being said; Memorial Day is not a day for a sale. Memorial Day is a celebration of life for the men and women who have served our country and “paid the ultimate sacrifice” (in other words, they died). Memorial Day is a time that each and every American needs to stop, if only for a minute and thank those men and women and their families. For a business to use this weekend to promote and have a sale is inexcusable. The owners or managers who came up with the idea should be ashamed. However, if that’s the mentality then perhaps the store should also have a sale celebrating the death of their owner.

For the public I ask that you do not shop in a store on Memorial Day that is having a Memorial Day sale. Let these businesses know they can have a sale on other days. Not one in which we honor those who gave so much and are no longer with us because they believed and cared for us and the US.
