Nov. 2, 1967 – PARADE WINNERS

Almost 100 youngsters took part in Saturday’s Halloween parade and window painting contest sponsored by the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.

Parade winners were Carol Mahler, first; Lonnie and Luenna Best, second; and David Dalby, third. Honorable mention: Danny Baker, Roger Cordes, Timmy Stoicheff, Cynthia Stoicheff, Valerie Dixon, Christy Weisz and Susan Compton.

Window painting winners: Barbara Fuller, who painted The Princess Shop window, first; Hildi Venishnick, J.C. Penney window, second; and Roland Phillip Green, Ross Hall window, and Beverly Wright, Nieman’s, tied for third. Honorable mentions in window painting: Tracy Walker, Lisa Thompson, Bobby Merrill, Randy Townsend, Jennifer Calkins, Richard Merrill, Debbie Twigg and Julie Swendig.

ELKS CHARITY BALL SET FOR SATURDAY

The annual Elks Charity Ball, one of the outstanding social events of the fall in Sandpoint, will take place Saturday evening at the Elks temple. Held each fall around Halloween, the Ball inaugurates the winter social season and raises funds for the charitable work done by the order at Christmastime and regularly through the year.

The semi-formal event, with music by the Holiday Quintet of Spokane, is open to the public.

Nov. 2, 1917 – SMALLPOX

Helmer Foss, of the firm of Foss & Anderson, is quarantined at his home sick with smallpox. His is the only case known in the city.

PACK RIVER NEWS

Charles Tuck upset his load in the grade near Sunnyside on his way to Sandpoint Tuesday, caused by the narrow road caving in. He was fortunate in not getting hurt. This part of the road has been dangerous for some time on account of the high water eating away the bank. This is part of the old railroad right of way, a splendid road otherwise and a great favorite with motorists.

People in this vicinity are much interested in the proposed drainage district as it would affect a number of places along the river and lake, and change the wild hay meadow to rich tillage acres.

Irving Ramsey lost a pig temporarily. It was missing a day or more and given up for lost. It was found Monday near the school house with a pail fastened securely over its head. No one knows how far it traveled. It was a hungry pig.

MUST VACCINATE CATTLE

Governor Alexander issued a proclamation that every Idaho cattle owner must vaccinate all young stock, from three months to one and a half years, inclusive, with blackleg vaccine as a preventive against the spread of this disease which has become prevalent in some parts of the state.
