Film reigns supreme among entertainment options
SANDPOINT — Film is big this week, starting Friday with the showing of ‘Liza, Liza, Skies are Grey’ — filmed by our very own Erik Daarstad — as the preamble to Saturday’s daylong Sandpoint Film Festival at the Panida.
Also at the Panida tonight is the Kitchen Dwellers/Horseshoes & Handgrenades concert, which will be a blast!
Sandpoint Senior Center has a cool baskets, books and bake sale on Saturday and DiLuna’s hosts Edison in concert on Sunday.

Thursday, Nov. 2
Kitchen Dwellers/Horseshoes & Handgrenades
Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: Doors open at 5:30 p.m., show starts at 6:30 p.m.
This is a dual headliner show with The Kitchen Dwellers and Horseshoes and Handgrenades. Cascade Crescendo will be the opening act to this amazing concert!
This year has been very good for the Kitchen Dwellers, the Montana-based quartet featuring Joe Funk (bass), Shawn Swain (mandolin), Torrin Daniels (banjo), and Max Davies (guitar). Fans of all musical persuasions love their fusion of psychedelia and jam-band elements into their bluegrass-rooted sound, creating a unique jamgrass synthesis the Kitchen Dwellers call ‘galaxygrass,’ while their undeniable musicianship both as writers and players grounds the band and gives them the foundation that allows them to innovate.

Cowboy-pop influenced tones pepper the ‘90s grooved folk-rock artist from Seattle. The songwriting is revealing; heart-breaking images become imaginable by way of honest, wailing cries. Dreamy vocals reminiscent of Paul Simon turn a darker shade as Ronhaar sings of convictions and hopes of change.

‘Wild & Scenic Film Festival’
Venue: NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center, 1000 W. Garden Ave., in Coeur d’Alene.
Time: 7 p.m.
Everyone is invited to a viewing of 10 short films at the ‘Lake Coeur d’Alene Waterkeeper Wild and Scenic Film Festival.’ The 10 films relate to environmental water issues and feature those working to overcome those issues. The event will also feature a raffle and guest speakers Peter Grubb, founder of ROW Adventures, and Mark Titus, director of award-winning documentary ‘The Breach.’
The Nov. 2 festival is a benefit for Lake Coeur d’Alene Waterkeeper organization in partnership with NIC and the Associated Students of NIC. Tickets for the Nov. 2 event are $10 for the public, $5 for non-NIC students and free

‘Liza, Liza, Skies are Grey’

Academy Award-winning cinematographer Erik Daarstad and two-time Academy Award-winning director Terry Sanders pair up again to bring you a young romance film you will not want to miss.
In the turbulent summer of 1966 — the summer of the bomb, the Vietnam draft and the exploding sexual revolution — 15-year-old Liza, and 16-year-old boyfriend, Brett, set off on an eventful four-day motorcycle trip up the coast of California from Pacific Palisades to Monterey and Big Sur. Brett will soon be going east and Liza, unsure of the future, has decided to be Brett’s ‘first girl.’

This exceptional film festival features short films — all 20 minutes or less — from virtually around the world. Come enjoy some of the best that new filmmakers have to offer. Three blocks of showings, taking place throughout the day.

Thomas Hampson returns to his hometown to perform with the Spokane Symphony. They will be joined by the Spokane Symphony Chorale and the Eastern Washington University Symphonic Choir under the direction of Kristina Ploeger. ‘The Conversation’

What is your vision for the $90,000 Schweitzer roundabout public art structure? Using timber, agricultural, technological, recreational, and creative industries for themes, what would you sculpt?
The Sandpoint Arts Commission seeks vibrant public art for installation at this gateway to Sandpoint. A successful proposal will reflect the multi-use nature of the location as well as the city’s love for its pristine land and water. The project is open to all artists residing in the United States, though the jury may give special consideration to artists living in Idaho, Montana, Washington, or Oregon. Suggestions will be welcomed, as well as the submission protocol will be shared.
