John Goggin 'Jack' McDonnell, 81

John Goggin “Jack” McDonnell, 81, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017 in his home in Sandpoint, Idaho with his family at his side.

Private family services have been held.

Jack was born on Sept. 13, 1936, in North Hampton, Mass., to Francis and Irene McDonnell. He was raised in Bridgewater, Mass., and while in high school his family moved to Long Beach, Calif. After high school, Jack joined the Air Force. Following his service in the Air Force, he moved to Sandpoint in 1961 and went to work for Ed Hawkins at the Lite-house restaurant in Hope.

He and Patricia Hagadone were married on April 28, 1962, in Sandpoint.

Jack managed the Elks Lodge and golf course, and later owned Riccardo’s Pizza and The Townhouse. After selling those businesses, Jack went to work for Bill Jones Distributing, where he worked for many years and retired in the late 1990s.

Jack enjoyed woodworking, fishing, skiing in his younger years, a lively game of pitch with family, traveling (especially in his RV), and golfing with family and friends.

Jack deeply loved and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Pat McDonnell of Sandpoint; three children, Kimberly (Doug) Bond of Sagle, Johnna (Kealand) Ramsey of Sandpoint, and Timothy Francis (Perelandra) McDonnell of Sandpoint; seven grandchildren, Amelia (Kevin) Dorin, Johnathan “Poppy” Bond, Henry J. Bond, Sydnee (Octavian) Rivas, Benjamin Ramsey, Connor McDonnell and Nina McDonnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Francis McDonnell, sister Maryann Couch and sister Margaret “Maggie” Becker.
