Event harnesses the power of community

Giving Tuesday is an annual global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is on November 28th. It kicks off the holiday giving season and inspires people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support. For library champions, Giving Tuesday is a 24-hour celebration of our community’s commitment to making Your Library Transformation happen.

Our goal this year is raise $2,400 in 24 hours. We are promoting our Granite level donation tier, a $5 donation which recognizes the donor or the name of someone they would like to honor in a bookplate inside the cover of a book in The Library’s collection of the donor’s choice. Additionally, we are partnering with several local businesses who have offered their support by throwing in swag for prizes and giveaways. More on those details as we get closer to Giving Tuesday.

The Sandpoint Friends of the Library are going to match your donations, dollar for dollar, up to $1,500 through the end of the year. But, our $2,400 goal is just for one day. So, save the date on your calendar — Tuesday, Nov. 28 — to have a part in a global campaign that benefits your own community and Your Library Transformation.

An individual taxpayer’s contribution to a public library is allowed as an itemized deduction on the federal return and on the Idaho State return. In addition, the taxpayer receives an Idaho tax credit for the contribution. This credit is also available to corporations who make a charitable contribution to a public library or library district located in Idaho. • Saturday, Nov. 4 — Pushing the Limits: Community, 1 p.m. at Monarch Mountain Coffee, 208 N. Fourth Ave. A discussion on how our community can be more resilient to extreme weather events due to climate change. Based on the book “The Thinking Person’s Guide to Climate Change” by Robert Henson.

- Satur-day, Nov. 4 — Local Author Readings, 2 p.m. at the Clark Fork branch library. Four locally reknowned authors perform readings and share tales from their author journeys. For more information, contact the Clark Fork Library: 266-1321.

- Tuesday, Nov. 7 — Mother Goose, 10:15 a.m. The library’s Story Times will be at Creations on the Cedar St. Bridge for a while due to the construction project. Stories and singing for babies and toddlers 0-3 yrs and caregivers. Information: suzanne@ebonnerlibrary.org.

- Tuesday, Nov. 7 — Preschool Story Time, 11 a.m. at Creations. Stories and crafts for kids ages 2-5 years old. The library’s Story Times will be at Creations on the Cedar St. Bridge for a while due to the construction project. Information: suzanne@ebonnerlibrary.org.

- Wednesday, Nov. 8 — Clark Fork Stories and More, 10:30 a.m. Stories and more is back after taking a few weeks off. Kids and their caregivers enjoy story time, songs, snacks, and crafts at the Clark Fork Branch Library, 601 Main.

- Wednesday, Nov. 8 — Make It at the Library, 2 p.m. at the Clark Fork Branch Library. Tweens and teens make a variety of STEAM projects. Information: 266-1321.

- Friday, Nov. 10 — Teen Writers Club, 3:30 p.m.; teens who write … unite! Collaboration, peer reviews, brainstorming activities. Writing supplies and refreshments provided.

- Saturday, Nov. 11 — Closed for Veterans Day

- StoryWalk — A partnership of the library, Kaniksu Land Trust, the city of Dover, and the city of Ponderay. Pages from a children’s book are posted along the trail. At Dover City Park, read “The Monster’s Monster” by Patrick McDonnell. At McNearney Park in Ponderay, enjoy “Close Your Eyes” by Kate Banks.

- Clark Fork Autumn Reading Program — Earn silent auction “bucks” when you log your reading between September and December. For all ages at the Clark Fork Library, 601 Main St. Information: 266-1321.
