Participants in an Oct. 14 “Wetland’s Wandering” class sponsored by the Friends of Scotchman’s Peaks Wilderness not only learned about wetland areas, they got to see plenty of critters, too.

Led by local instructor Brian Baxter, the group braved a cool morning and studied three different types of wetland areas. The participants talked about interconnected wetland habitats, identified vegetation, and spotted bald eagles, blue herons, belted kingfishers, common mergansers, wood ducks, mink tracks and scat, otter tracks and scat, western grebes, and a young bull moose who crossed in front of the group.
