Friends of Scotchman Peaks Wilderness invites winter recreationalists of all sorts to learn essential facts about winter travel safety from avalanche expert Jon Jeresek. Jeresek, retired Kootenai National Forest avalanche forecaster and active member of Turner Mountain Ski Patrol, will share his many years of avalanche and winter travel expertise Thursday, Nov. 9 at Simple Simon Pizza in Libby (at the west end of town at 30270 Highway 2). Backcountry and inbounds skiers, snowshoe hikers, snowmobilers and snowbikers will enjoy and benefit from this presentation.

Friends of Scotchman Peaks is providing the pizza for this free event. Beer from Cabinet Mountain Brewing will also be available. The event begins at 5 p.m. with a social hour and Jeresek begins his presentation at 6 p.m. FSPW will also be selling raffle tickets for a pair of state-of-the-art Tracker avalanche beacons (digital transceivers).
