Norris shines college debut

CALDWELL — Former Sandpoint standout Davan Norris had a solid first start at the college level, as a shorthanded Montana Tech football team fell to College of Idaho 64-35 at Simplot Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Playing without All-America quarterback Quinn McQueary, the Orediggers (6-3, 6-3 Frontier) turned to Norris and took advantage of a C of I fumble on the Yotes first possession, with the strong-armed Norris finding Dion Williams in the end zone from 4-yards out for an early 7-0 lead.

Norris, a 6-3, 190 pound redshirt freshman quarterback, made the most of his first collegiate start passing for 357 yards and four touchdowns. He was an efficient 28-for-44 on the day and connected with seven different receivers.

The win for the Yotes (5-5, 5-4) secured their first five-win season since 1969, and pulled the team into a tie with Rocky Mountain for third-place in the league standings.

Norris also led a 93 yard scoring drive to tie the score at 14-14, but the Yotes simply had too much offense. He was also sacked five times, and the Orediggers were held to just 85 yards on the ground.

Tech will host Southern Oregon on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day.
