It's a bountiful harvest of entertainment options

SANDPOINT — Concerts and Contra Dances, veterans’ celebrations and Warren Miller ski films — it’s a bountiful harvest of activity this week in Our Fair City. If you’re tempted to go farther afield, check out the concerts and films up in Bonners Ferry at the Pearl Theater and be sure to take in the free Fall Folk Festival all weekend in Spokane.

Music lovers will have a field day, with great live sounds all over town.

Thursday, Nov. 9

Andy Hackbarth

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Award-winning classical/Spanish/fingerstyle guitar virtuoso Andy Hackbarth pays tribute to the ‘Father of the Classical Guitar,’ Andres Segovia, through instrumental selections and short stories about Segovia’s life and music. This eclectic musical journey transports listeners from the music of Bach and the cathedrals of Germany to the hills of Spain and the work of Albeniz and Tarrega, from classical Europe to the southern tip of South America.

Friday, Nov. 10

Veterans Celebration

Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7 p.m.

An evening to celebrate and show appreciation for the service of veterans of America’s armed forces. In addition to the movie ‘Faith of Our Fathers,’ there will be patriotic music. This is a fundraiser for the five local veteran groups, with 100 percent of the donations going to them.

Admission: Free and open to the public, with free will donations gladly accepted.

Sandpoint Contra Dance

Venue: Sandpoint Community Hall, 204 S. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Time: 7-10 p.m.

Celebrate the joys of community by dancing with friends — those you already know and the new ones you’re about to meet! Live music will be provided by ‘Red Herring’ and all dances are called by Emily Faulkner. Previous dancing experience is not necessary. First-time dancers are encouraged to arrive on time for an introductory dance at 7 pm. Bring clean, comfortable, non-marking shoes to dance in.

Harvest Dinner

The Cole Show

Venue: Arlo’s Ristorante, 330 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.

Great music and fantastic Italian fare as Cole McAvoy plays in his solo persona.

Ron Greene

Venue: MickDuff’s Beer Hall, 220 Cedar St., in Sandpoint.

Time: 6:30 p.m.

Ron has been a dynamic musical presence as a professional musician and solo artist, spending the last decade performing throughout the Northwest and West coast. As a soloist Greene’s intimate stage presence has gained him a reputation as a passionate singer.

Jake Robin

Don’t miss two of Sandpoint’s finest musicians as they blend acoustic guitar and keys to play a variety of pop, rock, Americana and soul.

‘In My Life’: Beatles Tribute

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Take a magical musical tour through The Beatles’ most iconic performances in this rock ‘n’ roll stage biography narrated from the unique point-of-view of longtime Beatles manager Brian Epstein. ‘In My Life’ takes audiences from the mop-tops’ humble beginnings in Liverpool’s Cavern Club and their career-defining performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, to their famed final live performance on the rooftop of the Apple Records building. Folkinception and Veteran’s Day Tap Takeover

Time: Tap takeover from 5-8 p.m.; Folk Inception plays at 9 p.m.

The Two-One-Niner will be hosting a Tap Takeover by Mad Bomber Brewing — a veteran-owned brewery serving some of their best brews.

Come out and show your support for those you have served.

Veterans receive 2-for-1 pricing all day and a portion of sales for the entire day will go to the Sandpoint Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter to help all local veterans in need.

Harold’s IGA

Fall Folk Festival

Venue: Lair Student Center at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St., in Spokane.

Time: 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

This annual music festival, presented by the Spokane Folklore Society, is packed with performers from every genre and style imaginable, from soloists to full bands, dance groups to international fare on multiple stages. Plus, lots of impromptu jams apart from the scheduled performers. A very cool, family friendly event you don’t want to miss.

Spokane Symphony Pops: ‘The Mambo Kings’

Venue: Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox, 1001 W. Sprague Ave., in Spokane.

Formed in 1995, this top-notch Latin jazz ensemble is nationally recognized for their explosive blend of Afro Cuban rhythms and jazz improvisation. The Mambo Kings take you on an electrifying Latin jazz tour of the Americas.

Restoration 10th Anniversary Celebration

The Fox Theater Restoration is celebrating 10 years during the month of November. Enjoy music from Spokane Symphony musicians in the main lobby along with a concession bar with items for purchase.
