Chocolate bars aid local veterans

SANDPOINT — If you’re looking for a way to honor local veterans for their service, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2453 has a pretty sweet deal.

The post is selling specialty chocolate bars at select locations to commemorate Veterans Day. All the proceeds from the $3 candy bars are used to help veterans in Bonner County.

George Eskridge said the post provides myriad forms of support for vets who find themselves in a pinch, such as helping with housing or securing firewood.

“These candy bar sales help fund those endeavors,” said Eskridge, adding that the money stays in the community strictly to aid local veterans.

The chocolate bars, which are made by local chocolatier Sandpoint Chocolate Bear, say “Freedom is Sweet” amid a background of stars.

The bars can be found for a limited time at the following locations: the 219 Lounge, Café Trinity, Chocolate Bear, Route 66 Auto Body, Sears and the UPS Store.

The bean-to-bar chocolates are made from organic cacao from the Dominican Republic.
