Elks honor students for academic achievements
Sandpoint Elks Lodge No. 1376 has announced students of the month for the first part of the school year for the Lake Pend Oreille School District.
To be selected as an Elk’s student of the month, students must meet guidelines for character, citizenship, service, scholarship and leadership.
Sandpoint Elks Lodge award thousands of dollars in scholarships and local students also received an additional money in state and national Elk scholarships. The Elks are the third largest awarder of scholarships in the county and several students have received large scholarships from the state and national level of Elks.
Students from Sandpoint High School selected for the honor for November 2017 are Hannah Davidson and Sam Diercks.
- Hannah Davidson
The daughter of Kirk and Kirsten Davidson, Hannah Davidson is a senior at Sandpoint High School. She has a weighted grade point average of 4.292 and an un- weighted GPA of 3.979. Her weighted class rank is 15/231 and my un- weighted is 23/231. I was also a National Merit commended student.
Davidson has competed in state in both cross country and track all four years. I’ve medaled sophomore through senior year in state cross country and freshman through junior year in state track as well as holding the school record for the 800m. She was a track captain junior year and a cross country captain senior year.
In addition, she is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and art club.
- Sam Diercks
The son of Duke and Kim Diercks, Sam Diercks is a senior at Sandpoint High School. He has a 4.38 and am currently ranked fourth in his class.
Sam Diercks has been involved in a number of activities such as football for four years, track and field for four years, Cedar Post for two years, Men’s Choir for my first three years of high school, National Honor Society for three years, and along with having three jobs, he has interned at Blue Sky Broadcasting.
He has been on the honor roll every semester of high school so far, and has won a Region 1 Top Scholar award through North Idaho College, was an All-League Honorable Mention for football, captain of the football team, state qualifier in track, and won a second-place award for Best Sportswriting in the PNW through WSU School of Journalism.
