SANDPOINT — Happy Thanksgiving! Along with family, feasts and fun, we’ve got a bounty of entertaining festivities in store this week.
Top of our to-do- list is The Shook Twins making their annual homecoming for a pair of ‘Giving Thanks’ concerts scheduled for Friday at the Pearl Theater and the Panida Theater on Saturday.
Burn a few extra calories and earn an extra piece of pie by joining in this morning’s Turkey Trot Fun Run-Walk or get out for a T-Day movie by catching ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ tonight (and into next week) at the Panida.
Looking ahead, POAC brings The Nutcracker to town on Dec. 3.

Thursday, Nov. 23
Turkey Trot Fun Run-Walk
Venue: Travers Park Parking Lot, 1202 W. Pine Street, in Sandpoint.
Time: 9 a.m. (arrive earlier to register)
Join Sandpoint West Athletic Club and Sandpoint Parks and Recreation for the 10th annual Turkey Trot and food drive on Thanksgiving morning. This low-key event features a 5k, 10K or whatever distance you want to run or walk (no bikes and no dogs please).
This fun run is free with your nonperishable donation to the food bank. Come early to sign a waiver (minors need a parent or guardian signature) and to drop off food donations.

‘Murder on the Orient Express’

Our very own, nationally renowned Shook Twins are slated to sell out The Pearl once again, so reserve your tickets now. Kaitlyn and Laurie Shook return Thanksgiving weekend for their ‘Giving Thanks’ shows in Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry.
They have shared the stage with national headliners, including JJGrey and MoFro, Ryan Adams, Elephant Revival, Indigo Girls, The BoDeans, and Mason Jennings. If you’ve never seen them, prepare for the Shook Twins show to blow your minds with their epic, eclectic, remixed folk sound.

A Sandpoint favorite multi-instrumental trio that plays folk rock originals and off-the-beaten track covers from artists like Ween, Talking Heads and Violent Femmes.

Saturday, Nov. 25
Shook Twins ‘Giving Thanks’ concert
Venue: Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave., in Sandpoint.
Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
Their eclectic style fluctuates from song to song; drawing from their life experience they write about being potters’ daughters, the sway of the subconscious, imagined superpowers and a chicken friend named ‘Rose.’
Shook Twins also pull out unexpected covers on classic hits as well as their friends’ songs. After releasing their first album You Can Have the Rest, the twin sisters moved to Portland where they released Window (featuring Bonnie Paine and Bridget Law of Elephant Revival). Both albums were recorded and produced in Santa Cruz, California, at InDigital Studios with Brody Bergholz and Mason Rothchild. Shook Twins recorded their third album, What We Do, with Grammy nominated producer Ryan Hadlock at Bear Creek Studios. They are currently recording new music at Hallowed Halls in Portland, OR with Justin Phelps.

Eugene Ballet ‘The Nutcracker’

It’s a time-honored community tradition and a kick-off to the Holiday Season when local ballet students join Eugene Ballet Company’s professional dancers onstage in Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet. This visual spectacle is celebrating its 30th year on the Panida stage, so get your tickets early- they sell out fast!
